LIPPA

Licentiateship is the first level of qualification within the IPPA and shows the photographer to be a qualified professional person.

Judging of Licentiateship is by IPPA Associates and Fellows.

Applicants will be asked to submit a panel of 20 PRINTS. A minimum of 10x8 flush, or the image area a minimum of 10x8 on a larger canvas / print area.

The panel must consist of at least 50% of the type of work the Applicant would normally be commissioned to do on a professional basis.

The remaining 50% may be (where appropriate) commissioned work or personal work. With the exception of a GP submission (please see below)

Applicants for Licentiateship must submit in ONE of the following categories:

  1. Wedding

    20 prints (A minimum of 10x8 flush, or the image area a minimum of 10x8 on a larger canvas / print area) showing a good cross section of wedding images e.g. bride, bride and groom, group, ceremony, indoors and outdoors etc.
  2. Portrait

    20 prints (A minimum of 10x8 flush, or the image area a minimum of 10x8 on a larger canvas / print area) showing a good cross-section of portrait images. Please ensure to include single sitters and groups of two or more. The images may be studio or location images or a mixture of both.

  3. Commercial (Inc. Advertising / Press & PR / Fashion etc)

    20 prints (A minimum of 10x8 flush, or the image area a minimum of 10x8 on a larger canvas / print area) showing a good cross-section of commercial images. Of which no more than 50% may be self-commissioned / personal work.

  4. General Practice

    20 prints (A minimum of 10x8 flush, or the image area a minimum of 10x8 on a larger canvas / print area) showing 5 wedding images, 5 portrait images and 5 commercial images. The remaining 5 images may be personal images, 5 wedding OR Portrait OR commercial images OR a combination of all three.

  5. Other

    20 prints (A minimum of 10x8 flush, or the image area a minimum of 10x8 on a larger canvas / print area) showing a good cross section of any other category not already listed above. E.G. Medical, Forensic, Wildlife, etc.

You may be asked for supporting evidence of the professional status of your work.

AIPPA

Associateship is the 2nd level of qualification within the IPPA and shows the photographer to have a high level of technical ability and a strong photographic style.

A candidate for Associateship MUST hold Licentiateship of the IPPA for at least two years.

Judging of Associateship is by IPPA Associates and Fellows.

An Associateship panel is to consist of 20 prints. At least 16 inches on the longest side, with the image area being at least 10 inches on the longest side.

The submission will be judged as two separate panels of 10 prints.

The first 10 prints in the applicants chosen discipline, the second 10 in the applicants chosen discipline or another discipline.

A General Practice submission may consist of the first 10 prints in the applicants chosen discipline, the second 10 prints may consist of 5 prints in two other disciplines. (e.g. 10 Wedding + 5 portrait + 5 commercial etc)

No written submission is required.

QEP Qualified European Photographer

Once a candidate has their Associateship, they may then apply to FEP (The Federation of European Photographers) for the QEP qualification through the IPPA.

Qualified European Photographer (QEP) is a recognised Pan-European Qualification.

A QEP Panel consists of 12 images. The over-riding concern of QEP (apart from a very high level of technical ability) is whether the photographer shows a particular style and flair in his / her work.

MQEP Master QEP

To be eligible to apply for a QEP Master the candidate:

a) must have held a QEP Certificate for at least one year.

b) must demonstrate exceptional personality, style and originality.

There are only 7 MQEP’s in Europe, two of whom are Irish IPPA members


FIPPA:

Fellowship is the highest level of qualification within the IPPA. A candidate for fellowship must show that he/she has achieved an extremely high standard of technical expertise, with the creative element of the work being of major importance indicating individuality and flair.

A candidate for Fellowship must hold Associateship of the IPPA for at least two years.

All submissions by IPPA candidates for Fellowship are judged in the UK by the BBPQ (The British Board of Photographic Qualifications)

A submission for Fellowship must consist of 20 prints in a single discipline or on a single theme.

The candidate is encouraged to submit written evidence to support their panel.
